oh wow - must buy ASAP!!!

Thanks so much for the heads-up, bubudi.

Edited to add: What's the story on the encoding - is this an all-region DVD?

Looks nice, thanks for posting, bubs.

e2c, I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it's PAL, since it looks like it was produced in Germany. PAL may not play on your set-top DVD player, but it will still play on your computer, FWIW.

Cheers,

Michi.

I was thinking more about region codes, actually... but thanks!

I ordered mine right after I posted earlier.

I doubt it would have a region code... Region codes are really only used by the major studios, and even then, not always.

i would be very surprised if there were any drm encoding. the producer is a one-woman show and she is shipping all over the world. the companies that do drm make one version for each region and that is not cost-effective for something with such a small market share.

this is the only commercially available dvd of famoudou that i know of. it will be awesome to have the songs and dances together with the rhythms and all filmed in guinea as well. can't wait 'till mine arrives!

b, DVD players sold in the US have region code lockouts. There are ways to unlock some of them, but not all. (Mine's been hacked, but I still worry about buying things that I might not be able to watch.)

I wish the MPAA would just abolish the whole regional encoding system. It really isn't serving any purpose.

yes, i understand. but that's why all but the big companies usually encode their dvds with region 0 which will play in all dvd players regardless of what region the dvd is set to. i've yet to see an african percussion/dance dvd that is encoded for a particular region.

oh yea no doubt. just not normally on the west african percussion/dance dvds. you can also reprogram many dvd players to region 0 (with a code obtained on the net and entered via either the remote or local keypad) which will make them play dvds from any region. or you can rip a region limited dvd to your computer and reburn it to an all-region dvd.

I had no problems with the web interface to place the order (Safari). What's your problem?

Cheers,

Michi.
