growing up in conakry, fana studied with lamine 'lopez' soumah, koumbana conde, bolokada conde and ali sylla. fana was a performing member of ballets africains and percussions de guinee for 8 years. he also was percussion director for ballet fareta for 9 years. this led to the guinean ministry of culture declaring him a master drummer in 2008. this disc, sekha kan-kolon, was recorded in a studio in conakry with a cast of 15 musicians, including bala, djembe, dunun, krin, fula flute and vocals. fana now lives in portland, oregon.

fana is a really nice guy. great teacher too and is very generous with material.

he comes through santa cruz at least once a year and i see him at DDV.

i performed with he and Bolo last summer in PDX. great stage prescence too...
