Laurent Camara is one of Guinea's great virtuosos of the djembe. In 1973 He was recruited as lead soloist for Les Ballets Africains. The following year he joined Ballet Djoliba National, playing alongside Gbanworo Keita, Mamady Keita and M'Bemba Bangoura, among others.
In 1984 he became second soloist in Les Ballets Africains, touring with them until the year 2000. He joined Percussions de Guinea in 1985 and performed with them for 2 years.
