Brahima Coulibaly was born in Bamako on 17 September, 1976. From an early age he discovered his love and talent for dancing and learned alongside his brother Karim Coulibaly, himself a dancer and musician.
He joined the Theatre du District de Bamako and Ballet Keleti, where he found the former dancers of the Ballet National du Mali and other ballets in Bamako. In 1996 he was recruited by the Ballet National du Mali and became lead dancer. He toured to Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin, Niger, Senegal and Ghana. In 2000 he joined the ballet for their European tour. During this time he decided to settle in Belgium to share his art, passion and knowledge of traditions there.
Brahima, or "Djougou" as he is often called, draws on the traditional roots of Malian dances while adding his own choreographic arrangements and personal style that made him famous in the artistic community in Mali. He is sought across europe as a dancer, teacher, choreographer, musician and entertainer.
