I have always wanted to drum and recently got the chance to buy a beautiful Ivory Coast djembe. So for the past few weeks I've been learning how to play and tune and deal with swollen fingers (they tell me I'll eventually know how to slap without pain). My wife was interested so we bought another one for her and now it's couples night out whenever our circle meets. It is enjoyable - the songs, the different parts and how they go together, the leads, the different drums and how they all have a unique sound. It is easy to get caught up into the technical aspect of it all - the different woods, the different shapes, the different skins and so on, but I'm trying to just relax and have fun with it and the people involved!
