I bought a large, single-sheet fold-out map here recently: http://www.omnimap.com/catalog/int/guinea.htm

It's the most detailed map of Guinea I've seen so far (but no language information).

Here are some books

The powerful presence of the past: Integration and conflict along the Upper Guinea coast. Brill academic publishers - Done in 2010 you can check out bits on google books..

McGovern. M. 2004. Unmasking the state: Developing modern political subjectives in 20th Century Guinea. Phd Dissertation Emory University. - Specialises on the effect of the demystification process under Sekou Toure on the Loma in forest region. He has a book coming out on the history of Guinea soon.

There is a book by Fairhead & Leach, cant remember name.

There are some interesting origins of the names. I think a lot are based Fulbe pronounciations as they were travelling traders. As far as I remember Malinke is a Fulbe word, Kissi is Fulbe for the 'people we raid as slaves', and Pulaar is a French adaptation of the singular of Fulbe
