Yeah man, that's the idea. Some people call it "micro-timing" but for me it's just another way of saying feeling. I think e2c is right in that it's not exactly a shuffle, but just an overall rhythmic sense. There are a number of patterns that he's playing there. His fingertips convey the feeling of the bells or karignan, if we were to hear the whole ensemble playing the rhythm. It's a little bit like the clave of afro-caribbean music. Yeah, I agree. I'd say his strong suit is definitely not training others. It might be generous to say that he hasn't been working with them for very long?
