I think the current popularity of Senegal for major events and workshop is largely due to it not having been exposed to Ebola. Plus, it's a point of entry for westerners that is convenient because it has relaxed visa conditions, and there is a higher standard of living and infrastructure than in many other places in West Africa. All that adds up to a certain tourist appeal.

I don't think Senegal would be considered by a purist as Malinke heartland. But, hey, if the Malinke come to Senegal... ?
